Hi
I am Jason Herb a senior at The
Ohio State University majoring in Construction
Management. The major is relatively young but is has gained much recognition
in the last few years. The amount of people in the program has doubled
since when I first started. Since it is so new the university didn't know
where to put the program and it ended up in the college of Agriculture.
There has been talk of giving it a new home but nothing is set yet.
After wishfull
thinking I acquired a manual labor, summer 1998, position with a local
construction company Miles-McClellan,
a commercial building and contracting firm. Miles McClellan earned the
rights to help construct Columbus' new facility to house the NHL
Blue Jackets in 2000, The
Nationwide Arena. Turner
Construction is the general contractor for the job and Miles McClellan
has various tasks under Turner. I did get to work on the arena project
for a couple of weeks over the summer. I was assigned task ranging from
hanging 80+ signs on the fence guarding the perimiter of the site, mixing
concrete, building safety devices and setting up Turner's job trailers.
The construction
indusry is growing very rapidly and the demand for Construction Systems
Management majors is increasing steadily. The Program at Ohio State is
getting more attention as time passes. I actualy created the ACSM
Web Page and Recruiting brochure for the major. On the web page under
