DAYS & PHILLIPS

Thomas Day

Thomas Day & his brother William traveled with their families by wagon and packhorse to Louisiana Territory from N.C. & S.C.They settled there circa 1802 after recieving headrights from the then Spanish Government. The Territory was purchased by the United States in 1803.Existing settlers were allowed to keep their property.
Meriwether Lewis & William Clark began to explore the Territory in 1804.
Thomas and William Day settled land near the Tickfaw River. Thomas & William were also militiamen during the Battle of New Orleans(1815).Thomas sons John & Henry were also in their unit which was the 12th & 13th Consolidated Regiment. There were other Days' in their unit but i am not certain of their(if any) relation. There is also a Day family "next door" in Amite County ,Mississippi but they are not related. Many families in St.Helena Parish can claim some kinship to one of these two men.

Thomas Day was probably born in Va. or N.C. about 1775(his daughter Emily claimed he was from S.C.)Thomas and William (and their father Thomas Sr.) are listed on the Burke County NC census for 1800.William Day was married at that time to Nancy Deborah"Dicy" Cross, possibly a daughter of John Cross.Thomas' wife's name was probably Ann Jones Mosley. It is unknown when he died or his resting place, but by the 1820 Census, Ann Day was widowed.Ann Day lived until 1844.After the death of Thomas, William became the patriarch of the family.Thomas & his wife Ann had many children...(this is not in birth order..)
