HEY THERE'S A NEW ADDITION TO MY GALLERY! Hi there, My name is Roger. I am 43 years old, and am a rock climber. Although I started many years ago in the military. I didn't actually start learning most of the different types of climbing until about 1995 when I had a stupid accident that nearly killed me. Due to parental concerns I haven't climbed since June 2003. I still love the sport though and plan to do some climbing in Spring 2004.
Rock climbing is dangerous, but, if you practice safety it can be a fun hobby. All those years ago I didn't practice safety, and it nearly cost me my life when I fell into freezing water without proper safety equipment. Since then I have learned that using equipment to keep you safe is not cheating, or wimpy as I had been led to believe.
In fact 5th level climbing is very challenging since you do all of the work, and not the equipment. It's only there to catch you if you fall.
My other favorite hobby is astronomy which I often do while I'm camped out for a climb. (There's nothing like the view from a tall cliff.)
I live in Hartford, Ky. with my two daughters Amber (19) and Bethany (10). I have always lived in Kentucky except for a space of about 10 years while I was in the U.S. Army, and travelling the world (so to speak)
There are many beautiful & exiting places in the world that we take for granted. Places for Hiking, Camping, Climbing, & just enjoying. In my experience most climbers are involved with trying to protect our natural resources, and often join groups that look out for those resources as well as try to clean up those areas.
I'm hoping to make a climb of the Grand Teton in Wyoming in a few years. (Wish me luck please!) |
