Now for a little history. . . . I am Don Ruth. Many years ago, when I was farming with a wife and family of 5 children, I dreamed to build a campground and marina on the Missouri River in Iowa. After putting the finishing touches on my 15' boat in 1957, I decided to see for myself what kind of facilities were available on our great rivers. So I set out with a good friend, also a farmer, to travel south via the river from Sioux City, Iowa. Camping, fishing, and navigating downstream on the Missouri River to the Mississippi led me two weeks later to the Gulf of Mexico. Thoughts of what the Lewis and Clark expedition must have faced came to me. I knew my life's direction had changed.

I returned overland to Iowa spurred on in my desire to purchase 60 acres of river frontage at river mile 699.5, dig a marina and duck or geese ponds, plant trees and install hooksups for the campgrounds, build a shower house, boat storage building, and restaurant which also served as our home.
