The lakes and brooks in eastern Nova Scotia are plentiful
with speckled or brook trout and
there is also excellent sea-run brown trout and rainbow trout fishing only
a short drive away as well.
The fall salmon season is open from September 1 to October 31. Excellent fishing can be enjoyed right until the
end of October when the seasons close until the springtime. I have a limited
supply of fly rods and local favorite flies that I can lend you for your
trip, or if you prefer to bring your own equipment, I suggest an 8 1/2'
rod with a No.7 line. Wet and dry flies are used and range in size from
2-0 to No.8 or No.10.
These rivers can be reached by a 3 hour drive from Halifax
via the Trans-Canada Highway 104, then turning left onto Route 7 to Sherbrooke,
or via the scenic Eastern Shore on Route 7 from Dartmouth.
St. Mary's salmon are known for their stocky build and powerful fight. Come and enjoy the thrill as the river boils under your fly and the reel sings. With over forty years of experience on the St. Mary's and the area, I will take you to where the salmon, or trout, await.
