Welcome to Snow Rocket
This site is brand spanking new and I really don't expect anyone to be here yet.
Getting a site spidered and listed by search engines takes time. I guess that the
best thing to do is to imagine that there are a hundred visitors a day and get on
with it. I have learned from past experience that if you build it right, they will come.
All the components are in place and the submissions have been made.
Time will tell...
The Point
The main focus of this site is centered on the high performance
Ski-Doo snowmobiles manufactured by Bombardier. I will attempt
to provide a modest source of information on the sleds that I have
access to. I don't want to try to over do it here by claiming that this
will be the best or most complete source of Ski-Doo info on the web.
I just want to cover some of the things that I and the people that
I ride with are doing with their sleds. I will attempt to document these
mods in the Tech pages.
Don't just expect the new stuff here either
as most of the people that I ride
with own an old one as well as a new
one. We are restoring these old classics to a condition that is as close to
new as we can get with the available parts and resources. Check out the
Resto section for more info.
Another part of the site that I hope will be a
success and a reason to keep coming back are the
classifed ads. The basic
classifications to start with will be either Wanted or For Sale. In
the future, and if the number of ads is enough to warrant it, I will
break them into smaller groups. If you have something to post, just fill out
the form and send it in. I will get it up on the site as soon
as I can and it will stay there until you tell me to take
it off.
That is pretty much it in a nutshell so surf around
and see what there is to see. If you would like to drop me a line
for any reason I can be reached at snorocket@yahoo.com.
Enjoy.

The 2000 MX Z 700
Last year the big news was the ZX chassis. Power-to-weight ratio, balance and the center of gravity were the big factors
in the design of this innovative chassis. This year the big news are
the new series 3 engines.
These 4 mills take the weight and balance factors to
the next level. They are built from two blocks, all sharing the same
architecture and technologies: a 698cc mill built off of a large
block; and 597cc, 499cc and 437cc (racing-specific) engines are
built off of the small block. These new powerplants are known as the
"Series 3" engines because their Rotax model names all end with the
number three.
By using a cylinder-reed
configuration (moving the reed valves and carburetors up to the
cylinder level, rather than crankcase level) the engine (and the
entire powertrain) is mounted in the chassis bulkhead .75 inches
lower in the chassis and 1.25 inches closer to the rider. This lowers and better positions the center of gravity toward the middle of the sled which helps handling and stability overall.
The cylinder-reed configuration also contributes to up to
10 percent more power, as nearly 70 percent of the fresh charge (fuel/air
mixture) is routed directly into the transfer ports. The Series
3 motors also offer 15-20 percent better fuel economy.
Cylinder exhaust
ports are redesigned to improve power output, response and fuel
economy. They are now a triple-port design, with a R.A.V.E. (Rotax
Adjustable Variable Exhaust) modified main port augmented by two
smaller booster ports.
Reducing pull-start
effort is a new decompression notch. This small, 1/8-inch wide,
1/8-inch deep and 1/4-inch long notch is vertically etched as part
of one of the exhaust booster ports. The notch allows some fresh
charge to escape during compression, easing the effort needed to
pull over the motor.
All Series 3-equipped
sleds include an MPEM-housed "break-in" module. The MPEM automatically
restricts engine performance during the factory-recommended
break-in period by retarding the ignition by three
degrees during the first four hours of operation. -sr |
