TRISUTJI KAMAL ENSEMBLE
Founded by Indonesia's leading composer, Trisutji Kamal, the ensemble has
introduced new Indonesian compositions abroad, performing in prestigious
halls and important musical institutions around the world.
The idea of forming the group came from the composer's initiative of
performing her music. As a composer, she studied piano and composition in
several European conservatories. She graduated from The Santa Cecilia Music
Conservatory in Rome, Italy.
The treasure of Indonesian traditional and folklorical music are sources of
inspiration for her to write new compositions reflecting national identity.
The concept of her music is in combining her personal intuition supported by
western compositional techniques and Indonesian ethnic nuances. The ensemble
performs exclusively the music of Trisutji Kamal, whose works are
combinations of western and Indonesian traditional instruments.
The basic composition of this unique group is Duo Piano with Indonesian
traditional instruments, a flexible ensemble from four to six musicians.
