My
boyfriend Malcolm Butler Jr. got me on to anime. I didn't really
know much about it. The first anime series that I fell in love
with was Ranma 1/2. From then on I strived to find more anime. I
first learned of Marmalade Boy from the person I rented anime
from. She said that if I like Ranma 1/2 and Fushigi Yuugi that I
should try Marmalade Boy. When I heard the title I wasn't too
sure about watching it, but I watched the first four episodes and
I was hooked. So when my boyfriend asked my what I wanted for
Christmas of course I said "Marmalade Boy!!!" So my
boyfriend got the whole series for me.
Marmalade
Boy is about a high school girl named Miki Koishikawa and her
friends who go through the trials of love. It all started when
Miki's parents, Jin and Rumi Koishikawa, came back from a trip to
Hawaii and announced that they are getting a divorce. Miki didn't
take the news too well. If this wasn't bad enough they told Miki
that they met a couple on the same tour in Hawaii and they are
going to exchange partners with them. Miki is so embarassed by
the news that she decided not to tell anyone, except for her best
friend Meiko Akizuki.
Miki
finally meets the couple that her parents are going to exchange
with, Youji and Chiyako Matsuura. Then she sees the Matsuura's
son,You (or Yuu for those who have seen the fansub) Matsuura. It
was love at first sight, but she can't think of that right now.
She stands up at the table and begins to yell at the couples. She
told them that even though her parents have their faults that
they are still her parents and she does not want to be seperated
from them. Her parents tell her that they are going to rent a
house that is big enough for all of them to live in so that Miki
and You (Yuu) will still have their parents. This begins the
story of Marmalade Boy.
Marmalade
Boy has many twists, turns and unexpected surprises. When you
think that Miki and Yuu are finally happy someone pops up and
screws everything around. I recomend this series to anyone who
like love stories with suspense and comedy. This web page has a
lot of spoilers so if you haven't seen the series this page will
give away the plot.
