"Though the vast oceans separate the five continents, they cannot separate the
millions of Chinese living across the world. We may live apart from one another, but the
history, culture, language, and heritage that we all share will always hold our hearts
together.
For the past 32 years, the Overseas
Chinese Affairs Commission, and the China Youth Corps have successfully brought Overseas
Chinese Youths from all four corners of the world back to Taiwan-the beautiful island that
symbolizes freedom for all Chinese people. Through Mandarin language, chinese heritage and
folk art classes, we were able to gain a deeper understanding of the true essence of our
culture. The sightseeing trips, the guest lectures, and various other activities, have
enabled us to experience firsthand life in Taiwan.
The Study Tour serves not only to bridge
the gap of geography and generation, but also to help Overseas Chinese Youths to
strengthen our cultural indentity through this search for our roots. Whe the study Tour is
over, we will be bringing back not only the wonderful memories and new found friendships,
but more importantly, the seeds of our culture. When we return to our respective homes, we
will plant these seeds and help nurture Chinese culture all over the world." (Study
Tour Year Book of 1997, Page 3)
