VIPER THE
TV SHOW The beggining was in 1992. Chrysler was close to bankruptcy and wanted
to develop a "cool" image to their cars. So they started to develop the Viper.
Paramount was brought in to help promote the sports car. They made a TV show
starring the car. Filming bagan in 1993. The show was made for CBS but they
thought it would to be too violent, so NBC picked up the show and ordered the
first season of episodes. The Show Paul DeMeo and Danny Bilson created the TV show "Viper". "Viper" first
aired in 1994 as a two-hour movie of the week. The show was one of NBC's most
successful. In fact, over 50 million people in the U.S. tuned in to watch the
two-hour movie. But it was cancelled, and no reason was given. Paul DeMeo and Danny Bilson wanted to bring the show back--this time in
syndication. Production of the new "Viper" show began in 1995 and the show came
back to TV in 1996. This new "Viper" show ran for 2 seasons (season 2,3). The
show was in the top five spots as one of the most successful syndicated shows
running. After the third season, a fourth season was made. James MacCaffrey is
back as Joe Astor in a new Viper blue VIPER.
THE STORY "Viper" is set in the near future. "The day after tomorrow...." as Paramount
put it. It is about a high-tech sport car that was developed to fight crime. A
promotional video stated, "To fight the rising tide of crime, anew weapon has
been developed...the ultimate vehicle for police pursuit and capture. Only one
thing is missing--the driver who can tame its awesome capabilities." Whether
it's the "classic" series (1994) or the new "Viper" episodes (1996 - ? ), the
plot is still the same for both shows. They both feature a red Viper roadster
that is in disguise. But when it's time to"...take back the streets, " the
Viper 'morphs' or transforms into a silver, armored, weapon on wheels called
the Defender. The vehicle was developed for a police unit in a city called
Metro City to help clean up the crime on the streets. Thanks to JESTON HEADLY who wrote the summary (above).
