Using BitTorrent on a LAN using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
- Part 1
INTRODUCTION
This tutorial is for BitTorrent users who use Internet Connection Sharing
(ICS) on Windows machines, where the network is connected by a hub or
by multiple network cards instead of by a router. Terms that have definitions
are in bold blue font. Just run
your mouse over the term and the definition
will pop up.
One problem that can arise when using a BT client on a LAN is that
while you get good upload/download speeds on the gateway
computer (not the brand!), you can get very slow speeds when
using other machines on the network for downloading. In my case,
I was getting about 18KBps down/15KBps up on a 768/128 DSL connection
on my laptop, while the gateway machine was getting about 85-90KBps
down/20KBps up.
GETTING STARTED
Locate your Internet connection in the systray,
and right-click it. Select "Status" (Figure 1).

Figure 1
The Status window will appear. Click the "Properties" button (Figure 2). You'll
see a screen saying "(name of your Internet connection) Properties". Select
the "Advanced"
tab (Figure 3).
