Business Continuity through IT Resilience
With the current trends in business being dominated by
'E-commerce', globilisation and the Internet, IT is becoming increasing
important to business. Gone are the days when the IT function was for
'Management Information', nowadays IT and the business functionality it
supports are closely interwoven. Whether it be an Internet presence,
data warehousing or some other function, many businesses are so dependant
upon their IT infrastructure that without it they have no business.
To maintain the business, the underlying infrastructures - IT amongst them
- must be maintained, or in some way protected. There are two options -
the proactive and the reactive.
The proactive way is to design and implement the IT infrastructure in such
a way as to minimise the effect of the loss of key components. This may
include things such as redundant hardware, good security and change
management practices and the maintenance of good systems documentation.
The reactive way is to have some sort of Disaster Recovery Plan - this may
include an arrangement with a DR Services provider to supply systems and/or
skilled people in the event of a disaster - or may involve key resources
being relocated elsewhere within the company infrastructure.
Foster Consulting provides specialist services for each of these
alternatives - specialising in UNIX based infrastructures.
Details of the services available can be found by following the links above
left.
In an attempt to share some of the knowledge we have assimilated over many
years, this site also includes some resources that we hope may be useful, in
the form of scripts and sources
of information elsewhere on the Web.
