Introduction

The award winning Leinster Express Project was established under the auspices of FAS, the Leinster Express Newspaper and Laois Historical Society in April 1994

As one can see from its official title the course was founded with two distinct yet inter related

functions in mind.

The course has created a programme to form a computerised index of the Leinster Express Newspaper, from its inception in 1831 to the present day.

The trainees on the course are responsible for collating this information manually and in turn inputting the information onto a computer database.

The long term result of this will be a fully comprehensive system where researchers, be they professional or amateur, will have access to a huge variety of information.It is envisaged that this system will be available in the libraries throughout the county and eventually throughout the country
