PURPOSE
Eurothong is an e-mail mailing list which allows fun-loving people to discuss the wearing of thong and g-string swimwear in Europe (also known by some Europeans as 'string' or 'tanga' swimwear). Many women and men enjoy wearing minimal swimwear but can have trouble finding places where they feel truly at ease doing so. Therefore this mailing list allows thong and g-string wearers to discuss:
Whilst the mailing list is most active during the summer months, many people like to make plans for their summer holidays during the winter months and regular posting throughout the year is encouraged.

FAQ
(frequently asked questions)
Q:
What is a thong and how does it differ from a G-string?
A: A thong is the lower half of a women's bikini or men's swimming briefs
with the back part cut away to expose the buttocks. A strap of material comes
from underneath the crotch, up between the buttocks and then divides into two
to form a band going left and right round the body to join the front piece.
In essence the pubic area is covered by the main part of the thong with the
rest of the material merely holding the front piece in place. A G-string has
string-like material replacing the strap-like material of a thong. However,
some European languages use the English word "string" to describe
underwear and swimwear that does not have string-like material. Therefore in
French and German, the word "string" can actually mean a thong. Following
are some examples of thongs and G-strings:

Q: Where can you
wear thong swimwear?
A: Thongs may be worn on most beaches in Europe. Unlike the United States,
European countries tend not to pass legislation governing the type of swimwear
that may be worn on public beaches. If the beach is a topless one then thong
swimwear is almost certainly going to be acceptable attire. If the beach is
a naturist one then thongs will certainly be permitted although naturists may
feel that they should be removed. Some public swimming pools allow or tolerate
thong swimwear but some specifically prohibit it. Examples of places in Europe
where thong swimwear is popular are as follows:

Q: Where can you buy thong swimwear?
A: The availability of thong swimwear for women is much more widespread
than for men. Many shops and mail order catalogues have been known to sell thong
swimwear for both men and women (usually in summer months only), some of which
are as follows:
Debenhams (UK department store)
When asking for thongs in shops, the word for thong in some other languages is: perizoma (Italian), string (French/German), tanga (Italian/Spanish).
HOM - men's underwear and swimwear manufacturer (also available in many shops)
Some French hypermarkets and supermarkets (e.g. Géant, Mammouth)
Hennes & Mauritz (Swiss branches)

Q: What are the advantages of
thong swimwear?
A: In four words - maximal exposure with modesty. The buttocks are beautiful
part of the body and their display is consonant with this. You also get a sense
of freedom that is not apparent with other swimwear. Thongs allow the wearer
to get a greater tan and the waistband can be moved from time to time to minimise
tan-lines even further. Thongs are also more comfortable than other swimwear,
although many people find them uncomfortable the first few times they wear them.
Q: What are the disadvantages
of thong swimwear?
A: Not enough people yet wear thong swimwear, so the wearing of thong
swimwear is not universally accepted. This means that thong swimwear cannot
be worn in as many places as other swimwear.
Q: What do women
think of men wearing thong swimwear?
A: In the same way that many men prefer a woman in a thong bikini, many
women, particularly those women who wear thong swimwear themselves, prefer a
man in thong swimwear. Although it is common in many parts of the world to see
a woman in a thong bikini accompanied by a man in long swimming shorts, many
of those women would prefer their man to be in a thong. Those men who insist
on wearing long swimming shorts are usually just as reluctant to wear Speedo-style
swimming briefs as they are to wear a thong. If you are a man who wears thong
swimwear on the beach, any looks you get from women as a result of your thong
are more likely to be looks of appreciation than looks of disapproval or ridicule.
Q: If a man wears
thong swimwear, is he likely to be gay?
A: Probably not. Although also popular with the gay community, many straight
men enjoy wearing thong swimwear. You may notice that accompanied male thong
wearers on the beach are nearly always with a woman rather than a man.
Q: Are there any
female members of this list?
A: Yes, lots. However, few of them post messages to the list and prefer
to read postings rather than contribute. This is because women in thong swimwear
are more commonplace than men and as a result they have fewer problems than
men in finding places to buy and wear their thongs. Nevertheless, women are
encouraged to participate actively in this list and their contributions are
always welcome.
Q: How can I make
myself feel less self-conscious in my thong swimwear?
A: First, try to visit thong-friendly beaches such as those on our list.
Before putting your towel down, spend a few extra minutes walking around the
beach trying to find a spot close to other thong wearers (not too close though).
You are likely to feel much more comfortable when surrounded by similarly attired
people, and your presence may make them feel more comfortable too. Also, get
to the beach early and find some space for yourself/yourselves. When other people
approach with a view to placing themselves near you, your instinct may be to
turn on to your back so as to hide your thong. However, it is much better to
turn on to your front so that they can see you are wearing a thong. Then, if
they don't like your thong, they may move elsewhere. If they put their towel
down near you, then you can assume that they have accepted you wearing your
thong, and in some cases you may find that they are wearing thongs too.
