Mixed Media Electrographic Monoprints, Computer Manipulations & Drawings
Gini Holmes is a traditionally trained print maker (lithography) who has turned to more experimental means by which to create her images. She began her experimentation while an artist in residence at MIT's Visible Language Workshop - now a part of the MIT Media Lab - in 1976. Working with collegue/artist Tom Norton, she did an extensive amount of research in electraphic printing using a variety of copiers. Her Mixed Media Electrographic Transfer Monoprints are created using three types of copiers, including a XEROX Standard Haloid camera, one of only a few format copiers in the US. Her large format prints often incorporate handmade papers and 3 dimensional surfaces. In 1995, Ms. Holmes began manipulating her images in her computer. These giclee prints are often produced on handmade paper. Her drawings are a completion of a circle, bringing her computer explorations back to realization through a very basic medium - crayon.
