The mission of the FREESPIRIT FOUNDATION is to document the creativity of HIV+ and AIDS artists. By developing an experiential forum for these individuals to create art using the latest technology, and by providing an effective means for them to archive their life's work, their accomplishments and creative legacy will be preserved and remembered.....
There are many disabled artists and creative individuals with HIV and AIDS whose many talents are being lost in the struggle and hardship of their debilitating disease. A free altruistic avenue is needed for them to gain access to the latest creative tools, and an effective vehicle is necessary to facilitate documentation of their life's work. Without intervention, the creativity of these individuals will be lost forever.....
The FREESPIRIT concept is centered on development of a simple and professional framework which facilitates individual creativity and spiritual self-discovery in disabled artists. Our project is focused on creating the means to enable our clients to learn more about themselves, create art in the process, and finally to archive their creativity as a way to document their lives.....
The FREESPIRIT project will be developed in phases linked to budget requirements, using methods designed for incremental adoption of the various components. The project components include: a creativity workshop, the FREESPIRIT workstation, and the documentation process. The 5 phases are: 1) Research; 2) Schematic design; 3) Prototype Development; 4) Design Development; 5) Implementation. The project team will focus on development of clear simple methods to achieve the FREESPIRIT mission.....
COMPONENT 1: CREATIVITY WORKSHOPS
The creativity workshops will focus on self-discovery, spiritual awareness, emotional honesty, and the creative process. Participants will create art through both traditional methods and digital technology.....
COMPONENT 2: FREESPIRIT WORKSTATION
A state-of-the-art computer graphics and music workstation is designed as the final section of the workshops, giving participants the opportunity to use the latest cutting-edge digital technology. Easy to use, pro-quality imaging software over a simple interface will enable even the computer novice to create digital art.....
COMPONENT 3: DOCUMENTATION PROCESS
Creativity produced in the workshops will be archived on a series of cd-roms to document the participants' creative process. Submissions from artists will also be accepted for inclusion in the project, enabling the development of custom cd-roms to document a particular artists life and work.....
HARDWARE/SOFTWARE NEEDS:
We are in need of various hardware and software to complete our prototype workstation. Our greatest needs include both a Macintosh Powerbook and a Windows notebook computer, as well as a full complement of software for our workstation, especially ADOBE software.....
PERSONNEL NEEDS:
We are currently looking for consultants for our project team including the following: Internet specialist, experienced fundraiser, grantwriter, promotional manager, Macintosh graphics professional, and a financial advisor. Also needed are advocates to serve on our Board of Directors, as well as volunteers to help with non-technical tasks.....
Focusing on creating a strong and efficient management structure, the FREESPIRIT team is developing the most cost-effective means to implement the project. We are in the process of writing a complete grant proposal to finance our project. At the same time, an internet-based promotional campaign will spread awareness of our project and a fundraising and donations drive will facillitate our mission. We have already been the very lucky recipients of software donations from Metatools, Fractal Design, Apple, Extensis, Emagic, and many other companies.....
