Welcome to the Sky Valley Computer Info Site

Last Updated     2000-03-20 This web site is (perhaps) Y2K compliant. Any errors will be promptly corrected on January 1, 1900. After the Y2K problems are out of the way, I'll start dealing with the next big one - the  Y10K issue.

Countdown to Year 2001

While 2000 is neither a new century nor a new millennium, it was a good enough excuse to start a year long party, and a pretty good dry run for next year!

The Computers section has been  updated.   AMD has just released the K7 Athlon. It's already up to 750 MHz.  Intel has fought back with the PIII Coppermine CPU. VIA will keep the Cyrix name alive. IDT will stop producing X86 CPUs and sell to VIA.  Take a look at Under the Hood for a further description of the machine shown to the right.  Also see the Y2K and Space sections.  Did your GPS survive the EOW rollover Aug. 21-22/99?

Under The Hood - Take a look inside my computer.

The Sky Valley Computer Info web site covers a history of changes in computers over the last 15 years.  It also takes a look inside my desktop computer, and discusses the pros and cons of upgrading a system and looks at several popular CPUs.   There are sections on adding hardware, building a network and troubleshooting.   The other pages take a brief look at my other interests: amateur radio, GPS navigation, hiking, skiing, and sailing at the Squamish Spit.  Can't spend all my time on the computer!

These pages continue to evolve.  The computer section is starting to take more prominence, being updated often.  Some changes are subtle, and others are quite sweeping.  Why does this site exist?  It started out just as "something to do."  I hope it is now to the point that it will be both interesting and useful.   As noted on the Troubleshooting page, I will attempt to field computer related questions.

I moved into the neighborhood on October 16, 1998 at 03:40:15, but everything's still in boxes.
