The Tasmanian Orchid Society Inc.
The Tasmanian Orchid Society is the oldest orchid society in Tasmania, starting up in February 1947 as the Hobart Orchid Society. The society currently has about 80 members drawn mainly from Southern Tasmania and up the East coast. The society meets every 3rd Monday of the month at Legacy Hall 159 Macquarie St. (Next to St. Joseph's Church) except for December when it meets on the 2nd. Tuesday. All meetings commence at 7.45pm and visitors are welcome to attend. Current membership fees are $20.00 couple, $15.00 single and $6.00 junior (under 16 years). The membership year commences on 1st. March. Members joining at or after the Spring Show (End September) are considered paid up for the following year.
The greenhood orchid is the official emblem of the society and also gives its name to our monthly newsletter. The newsletter is published monthly, except for December and the last twelve months issues can be viewed on the internet (click here) together with a selection of photos of orchids displayed at the monthly meetings.
Also CDs are published covering past issues and include a very wide range of photos. Cd1 covering from February 1995 to February 2003 and starts to include photos from November 1999. There are approximately 1000 photos on CD1 including a wide range of species separately indexed. Cd2 goes from March 2003 to August 2004 and CD33 is from September 2004 to September 2005. Cost per CD is $15.00 to non members, $5.00 to members plus $5.00 postage if required. A DVD is also available containing all three CDs priced at $10.00 to members and $30.00 for non members.
