VINEcrazy

Hi Y'all, I'm Rosemary Basil, gardener, photographer, webmaster, chilehead and vine crazy artist.... You may know me from my many cyber gardening clubs on Yahoo and Excite and lists on Onelist. I have been growing vines for years in containers in my balcony garden in New Orleans' French Quarter and I love em! They soften the city landscape as they twist and twine over my iron balcony. It's sooo romantic! They take up little space as you let them dangle down from baskets or climb to the roof tops! Many are edible too! Like the one you saw on the entrance page- malabar spinach vine. It's one of my favorites cos it's pretty with its deep green leaves and purple red stems yet it's edible steamed or raw in salads. Heat tolerant too, a definite plus in my climate!
Other favorites I grow are morninglories and moonflowers, both from the Iponamea family, and old fashioned heirloom favorites. Grow them both together to enjoy cheerful colorful morning blooms and big white sweet smelling evening flowers that open as if in slow motion on a summer night. That's one I have in my hair in the photo, smells great with a good glass of merlot after a long day in the sun!
Other vines I grow and will discuss here are: clematis, mandevilla, passion flowers, cardinal climbers, mina lobata, runner beans...and some I don't even know!
You're invited to share your vine passion and knowledge at the Yahoo VINEcrazy Club and the VINEcrazy Onelist. Meet others and swap info, sources, and seeds!
Following is an index to the website. When it's completed, I hope to have a page for each kind of vine with info, pix, and useful books and links. Yes, I joined the crew at Amazon.com as an associate. So if you purchase a book thru me, I will get a "tip" and appreciate that. Likewise, if you know of any vine books that I should recommend here or you are growing a vine and have some tips to share, email the Vine Line!

This page is new and under construction but I managed to get the following pages done in time for Easter:
