“The
future belongs to those who give the next generation reasons to hope.”
Teilhard de Chardin
Telos Project is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 by its board of directors: President and CEO Ann Hancock, Secretary John Garn, and Treasurer Elizabeth Herron. Our mission is thinking, action, and fun for a sustainable world.
The primary initiative of Telos is the Climate Protection Campaign. For this reason, information about many of the programs described below is found on Skymetrics, the Campaign's website. Through this campaign, all ten Sonoma municipalities have pledged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and all have completed their emission baseline studies for their municipal operations. With these steps, Sonoma municipalities set two national precedents.
The Climate Protection Campaign completed an innovative project to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions for eight Sonoma cities, including residents and businesses. In 2004 the campaign is working on a new project to calculate and to assess the relationship between the Bay Area’s air quality and climate protection. The project is funded by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and administered by the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency.
The Climate Protection Campaign also promotes the Schools program in partnership with Strategic Energy Innovations . Since December 2002, nine local schools have been enlisted to reduce energy use on their campuses. In addition local realtors have pledged to support the schools’ effort. Students are also learning to conduct energy audits, and will soon help realtors and other small businesses reduce their energy use.
Voice of the Future, another endeavor of the Climate Protection Campaign, puts youth before policymakers to express their views about the future. The campaign also plans to work with the faith community to examine the ethics and impact of our choices on future generations, on other people and other species with whom we share the planet.
Telos Project is also proud to be the fiscal sponsor for Quest to Save Turtle Island a visionary film-making project to tell the stories of women who are moving and shaking the world.
Welcome to Telos Project. We invite your inquires, comments and partnership.
Sincerely,
Ann, John and Elizabeth
