Go on a Safari and Get to Know Me
We begin our safari in the small town of Bloomfield, Indiana on September 17, 1975 when John Titus and Karen Apple gave birth to a baby girl, our subject, named Jennifer. Our subject was born with the birth defect, spina bifida. She is paralyzed from the waist down and gets around by using a wheelchair. This never stopped our subject. She lived in Bloomfield until her graduation from high school
After high school, our safari turns to the streets of Indianapolis where our subject attended Butler University. She did some studying in English and psychology. The real world beckoned our subject. She left the nest of her mother in Bloomfield and started a new life in Bloomington, Indiana.
In 1997, she moved into Basswood Apartments -- Her very first apartment. She lived there for a few years until she happened upon an organization that would change her life forever -- Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat helped our subject achieve complete independence. By the year 2001, she had found a great job, learned to drive, and was finally living in her very own home.
And so ends our journey thus far. Our subject overcame the obstacles she faced from being disabled and triumphed into a strong, independent woman........who just happens to be in a wheelchair.
