Early spay/neuter is a safe procedure that has no ill effects on the kitten's mental, physical, emotional, or social development. What it does do is prevent any chance of unwanted pregnancy or misuse of the cat. Unfortunately, some people will attempt to purchase pet kittens from unsuspecting catteries to use in backyard breeding programs, or worse, kitten mills, where cats are abused and overbred for profit.
With at least 30 million unwanted animals (dogs and cats)
(many with poor breeding by these so called caring breeders)
given the "needle" each year, we must stop breeding for at
least a year. We must adopt from shelters and stop buying
from pet shops (puppy mill puppies) and breeders alike.
The horrible practice of puppy and kitten mills must be
stopped once and for all. I have seen many unwanted pure
breeds at shelters. They were wanted once, but now they
end up in shelters -- why? Poor breeding practices by
these caring breeders causing behavorial problems (the
chief reason dogs are given to shelters). Please think
of the precious lives that are being lost for the almighty dollar!
It seems that many people are supporting the practice of
pet breeding. Approximately 2 out of 3 pets born in the
US never finds a home. On behalf of these forgotten
animals, I call on you to boycott dog breeders until the
adoption rate catches up to the birth rate.
Finally, the puppy/kitten mill: a mass production system, where the breeding stock is kept for one purpose only, supplying young puppies and kittens that can be sold, and where great effort is made to spend as little as possible to maximize the profit margin.
