A RE-CELEBRATION OF THE VELVET REVOLUTION |
|
A
little more than a decade ago, a playwright and a group of dissident
intellectuals brought down a government . . . |
Because the revolution was so gentle (and
the new president Vaclav Havel was a friend of Lou Reed) it was termed The
Velvet Revolution. The newly free country in the heart of Europe drew
foreign journalists and business people, idealists and adventurers, in search of a new
kind of political system, and particularly lots of extremely cheap beer. In the first week
of September 2002, those foreign troublemakers and their offspring will gather once again
in the Golden City of Prague, prepared to pay a bit more at this stage for the beer, and
to commemorate the city's survival through yet another fin de siecle. Be there! The
highlights of the event will take place on Saturday,
September 7th, at the Communist
Museum on Na Prikope, but there will be revelling before and after. Contact Rob Urban
and Laura Zelenko and let us know you're coming so we can make the arrangements. |
