ABU TALIB BHALOO

March 13, 2001.

OK, so it has taken me a little while longer than expected to finish up the remaining sections, but as they say, better late than never!

I've completely re-worked the friends section, putting more comments with each photo in order to make it more "personal". I hope you enjoy it.

As for life in Abidjan, all is well. I'm slowly getting used to waking up at 7:30 in the morning, stepping outside and getting a blast of 33 degree weather (thank GOD -- literally! -- for air conditioners!). The internship is finally showing the promise I was hoping for over a month ago. And I'm looking forward to next month when I get the chance to go to a Club Med resort for the weekend!     :-)

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Life here in Abidjan is just flying by. Although rumours persist every week of a new coup d'etat threat, the town remains peaceful for now and business continues on.

The internship, itself, is....well, slow to be honest. But, I may have found a promising new lead to take for my report, so we'll see how that goes.

I've made some more changes to the site and have also added a few new photos in Liberty's and my Family's sections. Within the next week or so, I hope to make some layout changes to the Friends section as well, so stay tuned!

I found my scanner! Or at least, access to one. So, there's a few new photos (as well as some not-so-hidden surprises!) in all of the Photo sections. Enjoy!

January 31, 2001.

OK, I've already had my first complaint: first, about the lack of pictures and second, about the time it takes download the current ones.

First, about the pictures. More specifically, the lack thereof of family and IMBA pictures. Rest assured, these will come in time. But, being scanner less myself, I was at the mercy of the only lab I knew that had one, and that was back in Toronto just before I was leaving. Since I have yet to find to find an appropriate outlet here in Abidjan, more photos may have to wait till I get back I'm afraid.

As for the download time, I do apologize. I realize I could have made it slightly easier (not to mention faster) if I had used smaller images on each page, but that would have required a ton of effort to create separate pages to view each one appropriately. Maybe in a few weeks when I get the time. But, I will try and minimize the number of photos per page, in order to decrease the download time.

So what else is new? Well, I'm slowly re-adjusting to life in Abidjan again. I must admit, it certainly was a shock to the system at first -- especially after the hectic schedule I had in Toronto. But, I'm getting more accustomed with each passing day. Plus, it really does feel great to be home, even if things have changed a lot since I left almost 12 years ago (the series of coups , coupled with the recent attacks on fellow African minorities, have definitely made the changes all the more apparent, sadly).

The internship is slowly coming along, as well. I spent the first few weeks basically surfing the net, just trying to pick up bits and pieces about the banking industry. Now comes the hard part: trying to understand what's happening locally and how I can be of any benefit. The more I dig, the more confused I get, so I'm hoping there is a light at the end of this tunnel! The bank itself is small, by any standards, but the people are nice and I'm sure it'll provide me with a ton of good memories, so what more could I ask for?

January 26, 2001.

Since I've been accused of being negligent in keeping up with my friends and family (rather unfairly I may add!), I thought I'd finally create this site to act as a "portal" into my life -- what little there is of interest, that is.

But, once I began, I thought -- in the spirit of the Web -- that I had to also add something of real value. So, given that I couldn't find anything else, I've decided to put my academic papers up for public scrutiny. I'm not really sure they're worthy of this purpose, but they are what they are and hopefully they may prove to be of value to some of you (and God help you if they are! hahahahaha...).

Anyhow, I'll try to keep this as updated as I can. Enjoy the pictures, if nothing else....
