I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland out side a small town called Federalsburg, MD, located in Caroline County. My farm is located across from a Maryland State Game Refuge, Idylwild Wildlife Preserve, we have Deer, Wild Turkey's, Duck's, Fox, and all other types of wildlife, running through our fields and yard , with myself and my wife Sandy, two sons, Mickey Jr., Scott , and my daughter, Shelly .My wife and I, and our son Mickey Jr. live on the farm, that was my wife's Grandfather's before his death in 1977.
This farm was built by Holbert Wheatley and his father its about 110years old its still one the few Registered Farms on the Eastern Shore of Maryland . Holbert sold his Family Farm to a man in Balitmore,Md. with his life time rights to live here, after his wife passed away in 1976 ,because he knew that his six Childern and all the other family members would fight over who was going to live on there Family Farm, he was right, everbody had everbody in court. In his will all things on this farm and in the house were to be sold at Public Auction.
My wifes aunts and uncles had to buy what ever they wanted of there Father's&Mother's, things at this auction with the $Money, their father left them from the sale of the farm in his will, and all other money that came from this Auction was divided equally with all of his six childern . We were present at this auction sale and bought some Church Plates that have images of Churches on them that were my wifes Greatgrand mother's,and Grand mother's, and we still collect Church Plates today. We have about 250 plates most of what we have are the Church's from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. We also bought some "Antique's" that had been in there family for many years.
In 1985 the person in Balitmore that owned this farm died, and we found out that the place was going to be put up for sale, and our children were still young,my wife and i thought this would be a good place to raise our family and we bought it in 1985, my wifes family was so happy that we had bought there family farm, and that it was owned by part of there family, they had a Wheatley Family Reunion here that year to relive there past childhood memoirs of living and growing up here on this farm My wife's Mother died that same year knowing, her daughter's family was living where she had grow up
. We have torn some of the old buildings down and removed the old outhouse, when her Grandfather had this farm, he ran a tomato canning house on this farm, it was know as" Wheatley Tomato Cannery" it was build by my wifes grandfather, and he farmed this 67 acres, along with his family and bought tomato's from other local farmers in this area, it was a good bussiness for him that lasted about 50 years. The old canning house is no longer standing, only have some of the old canning lables left to remember that it was part of "Delmarva History".Most of the canning houses on Eastern Shore are gone, left only are some larger ones, around the Delmarva Pennisula, we rent out the farm land we own to a good friend who owns and farm's land next to mine, he likes to farm.
I run a small Tire business from this farm, most of my work is local 2 states I am only 2 miles from the Delaware State line, I do Passenger, Truck, Farm, and Off Road Tires I have been servicing and selling tires for 30 years on the Delmarva Pennisula. I went in business on my own in 1986
Well you found me? Look around the "Eastern Shore" while i take a NAP !!! Here in the "Land of Pleasant Living"
