CREEPING DEATH

12 second 1967 Buick Riviera GS Stage1

Welcome to Creeping Death's page. The car is Creeping Death, and I am its owner and builder, Steve (ROA#5760). l build, drive, show, and dragrace 1967 Buick Rivieras. This page is something I made to teach myself HTML, show my cars, and give me something to do during several tedious college years. I have a picture gallery of Buicks I have received over the years, as well as West Virginia ROA show pics, and a number of other things. Thanks for stopping by, feel free to explore, and mail me your Buick pics if you wish it to be in one of my gallery pages.

Here it am

This particular Riv is my fourth '67, and one of two I still own. It was built in 1997 to replace an identical one (except for the color) that was destroyed by fire. I located it in my home town nearly 10 years ago, where it was owned by an old couple that never drove it. After years of trying to purchase it from them, they finally agreed to sell it to me last year. It is an original GS and has only 42,000 miles on the original motor and transmission.(both of which are tucked away in a dark corner of my garage) It makes some enthusiasts mad that I ripped an original low mileage car apart and now race it, but come on, I had a nearly 600 horsepower 455 just sitting around from my previous race Riv. To all you that are still mad at me......wanna race??

462cid

The car is powered by a 1970 Stage1 Buick 455. It has been bored .030 to 462 cubic inches, and been reworked with many high performance parts. These include: 10:1 forged aluminum pistons, a Poston Enterprises gs113 camshaft, ARP rod bolts, T/A performance 1.60 roller rockers, Kenne-Belle high volume oil pump, Wolverine True Roller timing chain, and a T/A SP-1 aluminum intake manifold to name a few. It is topped off with a Holley 850 double-pumper carb. with 50cc accelerator pumps. Complimenting the engine are Kenne-Bell finned aluminum valve covers, MSD6-AL ignition system, MSD timing computer, a reworked HEI system, and factory GS "star wars" air cleaner. Exhaust gases are handled by Flowmaster 2 chamber race mufflers and T/A Performance Shorty Headers. A NOS superpower shot nitrous oxide system adds 150 horsepower when needed, and a Hurst line-loc helps heat up the 255/60/15 hoosiers. A full compliment of Autometer 2-5/8" gauges monitor the vitals, and an Autometer 8,000 rpm Monster tach w/shift light keeps me shifting on time.

The motor is backed by a Custom racing transmission with a 10" 2800 stall torque converter built by Chippy's Transmission in Morgantown, and a 3.42:1 posi-traction rear. The GS option package helps with handling duties as do the rear air shocks and new front end parts from Kanter Automotive. The factory air conditioning used to be cool but it broke so its history now. A long list of options on this Riv keep cruising fun, As does my 600watt stereo system. It features a Sony CD deck with 3 sets of preouts, built in crossovers, DSP sound fields, and trunk mounted 10 disk changer, PPI Artseries 4 channel and mono amps, 2 JL 12" subs, and Boston Accoustic 6-1/2" component speakers in the doors and rear deck. Finishing off this car is a PPG urethane and clear coat paint job, and an original vinyl top that still looks new.

This car is daily driven and has been since I finished it. Surprisingly It has still won several trophies since I finished it in May of 1997. It also made a trip to Mason-Dixon dragway in Hagerstown, Maryland in August(97),(driven the 100 miles there, raced all day, and driven back of course) where it posted high 13 second passes without nitrous and mid to high 12's with nitrous. Not too bad for a car that weights 4800 pounds and runs on street tires and full exhaust.

I finally made it back to Hagerstown in March of 1999. I did not run my nitrous at all, for fear of destruction and lack of rebuild funds. However, I did manage a 13.4 @108 off just the motor, making this .5 tenths faster than my previous fastest run without juice. The first time I get to race and not worry about breaking something I should be in the very low 12's using the NOS.

Since my last update, I have finished changing the interior color to black, graduated from WVU, taken a job as an Account Rep for a large corporation, moved to a new state, acquired the headers I have been searching for forever, and finished restoring my stock 67 Riv, among other things. I have also retired CD from his daily driving duties now that I'm in Richmond. While this indeed does suck most grievously, it saves alot of wear and tear on him, as well as an ungodly amount gasoline. It will however provide me with an opportunity to go completely insane if I so desire. Who knows maybe I'll start on that 528 stroker I've been hording parts for now, and aim for the 10's, time will tell.

safe time to take a picture huh

Since I first got on the internet, I have been surprised by the amount of Riviera and Buick lovers that I have encountered here. Many have helped me out with various problems and many others have just shared their love of these automobiles with me. I would like to thank you all and If I can help anyone with their Buick, in anyway, let me know. I also have a large stash of '67 parts layin' around. And again, If you would like your Buick in the gallery, email me a picture(s) and url if you have one.
