The story of today's Excelsior Henderson begins in 1993. As in previous years, the Hanlons rode their bikes to Sturgis, S.D. for the annual Black Hills Motorcycle Rally. The rally's outspoken crowd, fierce competition, and the steady roar of big bikes made for the adventure they were accustomed to finding there. Somehow, though, something was missing.
While looking over the streets of Deadwood, they realized the element missing from the rally was true individuality. Almost everyone at the rally had the same brand of American-made motorcycle or a copy of that brand. There wasn't another choice, hadn't been for a long time, for those who wanted an alternative to a genuine American-made, premium heavyweight cruiser. Here was a uniquely American get-together and it was missing one of the cornerstones of American life: Freedom of Choice.
When the Hanlons got back home from the rally, they joined together and pondered on the idea of producing an alternative to a genuine American-made motorcycle. Hence, a cinder of American glory has been reignited.

Today's New Super-X "Pursuit of Excellence"
From tire to tire, saddle to sidestand, each part on the Super-X is new and original, not "off the shelf." Inspired by the Excelsior-Hendersons of days past, the new Super-X is a powerful, aggresive, and innovative machine that combines the finest in today's technology with the timeless heritage of the original.
The heart of the Super-X is its unique 1386cc X-Twin engine. The 85 cubic inch displacement power plant features two dual overhead cam, four valve, opposed cylinders configured at a 50 degree angle. Each of the massive black cylinders blows into an exhaust system that mirrors the highway as it stretches rearward.
The X-Twin is fed by a closed-loop electronic fuel injection system. Exhaust characteristics are monitored and fuel performance data is sent back to the systems brain. This system "closes the loop" resulting in the best possible engine performance in any situation.

History of Excelsior Henderson
The story of the Excelsior Henderson brand begins in 1876 with the founding of the Excelsior Supply Company, a maker of bicycles and parts. By the latter half of the 1800's, bycyles had become very popular as durable, light and relatively safe transportation. During the fisrt decade of the 20th century motorcycles were built
by bicycle and automobile manufacturers who were as new to motorcycles as motorcycles were to new. By the time Excelsior built its first motorcycle in 1905, the company already had 30 years of experience engineering bicycle frames and parts. This gave them a leg up on the other motorcycle manufacturers who had difficulty keeping their bikes together on the torturous roads of the day. Excelsior gained popularity in its first years, as motorcycle clubs formed and held various competions. When Excelsior began competing, motorcycle racing was a popular sport. Excelsior quickly became a serious challenge to other industry competitors. In 1911 the founder of the Schwinn Company, Ignaz Schwinn entered into the motorcycle industry and had plans to build their own motorcycle. Schwinn, realizing that Excelsior would be a very tough competitor chose to draft an aggreement to purchase Excelsior. By 1912 the Excelsior buy out deal was a success and Schwinn waisted no time in promoting the Excelsior to even greater world wide recognition.

An antique E-H with sidecar. Looks like a 1925 thru 1931 Super-X model. Can't say that it's really authentic, Super-X V6 engine? To my knowledge, E-H never made a V6.
