The 20th Century MGB Roadster

Union Jack

The 20th Century MGB Roadster is one of the best little sports cars that was ever on the road. I have owned one for the past 26 years, and wouldn't be without one.

This was my first MGB,a 1974 1/2 Rdster. I bought it in 1975 and had to sell it much to my dismay before my move to VA. I didn't want to bring a CA. car free of rust out here to begin rusting. The car was only in the shop three times in all the time I owned it. Once for a master clutch, once for a radiator hose that blew on the way to work, and once for a electrical problem, which turned out to be the pc board that is behind the dash.

I now own a 1974 MGB Roadster that I purchased back in Jan. of 1991. The car had been pretty much restored. New paint, and that was about it. The engine was rebuilt, but to what extent I'm not sure. I have no pictures of this car right now but will be adding some soon. I have just purchased a hardtop for it, and am in the process of continuing the restoration. I plan on changing the whole interior which is black now, to Autumn Leaf. A very expensive task. I will be replacing more things as I go.

The eventuality of changing the leaf springs is inevitable since the driver side droops in the rear. I believe there is a possibility also that I have a leaky brake cylinder, due to the fact that when I do hit the brakes hard, they lock up. Although I haven't seen any signs of a leak, I have been told that will cause it.

Update: Aug. 30, 1999

Received the new top for the car. This wasn't as easy to put on as they claimed it to be. But after much adjusting, it is on. Definately money well spent. Please if you order a hard top for your car, take it out of the packaging when it arrives. I found my first one to be shattered on the drivers side from being dropped. These are made of fiberglass and can be fractured easily during shipping.

Update: Aug. 31, 1999

Installed the new radiator today. This was one purchased through Moss. It didn't line up at all with the holes on the radiator support. Ended up having to make the holes bigger and out to the sides more. Also there were no nuts welded to the middle holes on the radiator, so I have only four bolts holding the radiator on now due to lack of hardware. Its a good idea when ordering to ask if indeed a new radiator has all six nuts welded onto it so if not you can order the extra parts you need to install it properly.

I will be updating this page as my restoration progresses, so check back.
