My New Truck!
1949 Studebaker 2R-10 3/4 Ton Pickup
Background: The 1949 2R series trucks were introduced to continue the "progressive" styling trends set by the postwar 47-49 Studebaker Car models. The Chippewa Avenue plant was the chosen site for the production of these newly designed trucks. The 2R5, 2R10 and 2R15 models were powered (to use the term loosely) by the 170 cubic inch Champion engine. To call this a "powerplant" would be a misnomer! It wasn't until late in 1950 that the more powerful Commander 245 cubic inch engine was fitted into the 1/2 ton 2R6 and 3/4 ton 2R11 models. The 2R series of trucks remained virtually the same from 1949 to 1953... only minor trim, interior, and color changes were made. Still, this was the most successful line of trucks produced by Studebaker. Total production was approximately 275,000 2R series trucks during these years- Easily eclipsing total prewar production as well as all trucks produced from 1954 till the end of truck production in 1964.
I hope to have pictures available of my truck soon. This page will document the resurection of this 50 year old workhorse.
