NHRA drag racing at Innis Texas- like sitting on the front row at an earthquake!

Truly awsome! These cars make around 7000 horsepower with 500 cubic inch V8 engines burning nitromethane. They can accelerate from 0 to over 320 miles per hour in a hair over 4.5 seconds, covering 1/4 mile while consuming 15 to 17 gallons of the $42 per gallon nitro in the process. In this picture, Kenny Bernstein in the far lane, was the first driver to go faster than 300 miles per hour in the quarter mile. In the near lane is Joe Amato, 5 time world champ. You have to see it in person to believe it.

These signs on either side of the track show the elapsed time for the quarter mile run, the speed at the end of the run and the light in the middle on the bottom shows which lane won. In this picture you can see that the car in the left lane won, running 321.42 miles per hour in 4.60 seconds.
