Back when I was a teenager, in my neck of the woods Ford and Chevy ruled. My older brothers
Always drove mopar and I thought they were awesome. My first car was a 61 Plymouth
With a 383 Golden Commando and that thing would move. The 1/4 was a regular stop for us
Back then. That old push button beat a lot of good cars.
But it was in 1968 when I first heard of the 340 and I really wanted to have one, I never had
A new car before and I wanted a good one. The B Bodies were to expensive for me so I
settled for the Dodge Dart GTS 340. She was a four speed with a 3:55 rear, B5 Blue Black
top and Black interior, real pretty and really fast. I raced that car every week end and I was
beating all of the big guys That Car was a real sleeper. Sorry to say my new GTS did not last
long . I only had it for seven months and I wrote it off. But I never forgot that car. Shortly
after that I got married to the Love of my life and we had three children. The GTS was put in the
back of my mind but I never did forget it.
It was 26 years later and I was looking at an old car trader and there was a 69 GTS 340 auto
B5 with white top for sale, I talked it over with my wife, the purchased was made over the
phone and again I was the owner of a 69 GTS 340.
My home is in Nova Scotia and the Car was in Saskatchewan 3400 miles from me. So of I
went to pick up my GTS. When I first saw it in person I thought to my self, This Car will
never make it back home. She looked OK but I saw that it would need a lot of tender loving
care and that is just what I planed on giving her. I left Saskatchewan on Thursday and I
pulled into my driveway Sunday afternoon the car worked great for me and I don’t think I
took the smile of face all the way home I loved it.
Now that my car was home and I drove it a bit more I decided to do a restoration job. That
is when I met Willie Hanscon. Willie owns a body shop and he is a die hard A Body Mopar
man. Well Willie showed me his 69 GTS that he did over, it was a master piece and I really
wanted him to work on my car. Willie agreed and the work started, we replaced every thing
on the car, Carlisle was a routine run for us for 3 years. There were times that I thought this
car would never get back together but thanks to Willie it got finished and now I have a brand
new 69 Dart GTS. I put it in four Car Shows so far and it took Best of show three times. I
keep it in the garage and only take it out on really nice days, one thing for shore this GTS is
going to last a lot longer than my first one.
.
This is how my GTS looks after 3 years of hard work.
