The Porsche 959 was developed for on purpose, Group B rallying. The first prototype was made in 1984, and had the code name of Gruppe B. This was built on the classic 911 chassis, but when production came, it was a car of it's own. Until Group B rally cars were banned, the 959 competed in two of the Paris-Dakar rallies, winning both of them. A total of 203 were made, of which 200 were made to fulfil the rallying criteria, all of these models were sold before production, and now have a value of around double there original value. The 959, was unlike any Porsche ever made, it abandoned the use of a boxer engine, and used a 3.0 litre twin turbocharged V6. This enables the standard version a top speed of 317Km/h, but there was also a few sport models made, capable of 339Km/h.
