I have owned this car for 5 years now. I bought it from the original owner who purchased it new in San Diego in March of '67. This car was painted a '70 International Harvester green when I bought it and was looking a little tired. It has been thoroughly gone over but has not had a 'frame off'. I tried to go original on everything, bolts, clips, silver valve cover gaskets etc. It was a lot of extra work to put things to stock, but that is what I wanted to do with this car. It was factory ordered with a ton of options, including factory air, tilt, tach and a bunch of other stuff that I won't bore you with right now.
The engine has been completely re-done. I wanted the 'stock' look but would not settle for stock performance. It is carrying original compression 030 TRW pistons with moly rings, polished rods, windage trays, re-worked oil pump etc. The entire assembly was balanced and 'printed to specs. The heads have 2.19 stainless steel intake valves and stainless exhaust with hardened seats. Mild pocket porting has been done to the heads as well as bronze guides. The cam is a new grind from Competition cams and is running just over .500 lift ....( i'll dig the specs up if I leave this file here) and has the complete kit to go with it... lifters, pushrods, roller rockers, springs, keepers etc. The stock rating was 325 but I am confident that I am getting more than that out of it. The problem as you may have deduced is the 3:08 rear..... the first part of the quarter the car is a bit slow.... either smoking the tires or if it hooks up.... waiting to get into the power band. Second gear is a real killer and the car moves out like crazy and will run just about the rest of the 1/4 in second.... it just keeps accelerating!!!! I have no plans to change the gearing as the car is used more for cruising and I can get 18 mpg on the highway.. if I behave! ; - )
