The humble me

Hiya all! First, lemme introduce myself. I'm Sriräm Ganapathy. Who else eh? People know me as Sri(the)man™ and folks from college know me as Jingo(!) and also as Aamir(?)

I was born a Libran in the holy abode of Thiruvananthapuram in the God's own Country. Though born in Trivandrum, the first decade of my life was wonderfully spent(How I wish those days come back!!) in the Capital of India. Stayed in Karol Bagh and went to school at the New Bloom School there.

Adolescent

The next decade saw me in the sunny beaches in the wonderful city of Madras aka Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Stayed at Ashok Nagar and went to school at Jawahar Vidyalaya. After the wonderful JV days, my high school days were at Sri Ramakrishna Mission (Main) in T.Nagar, Madras where I was first exposed to computers. The first PC I worked on was a Siva PC with no hard drive and two, 51/4 floppy drives!

Undergrad

I joined my Bachelors in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at Annamalai University , Chidambaram, the place where I learnt the tips and the truths of life. Being at the hostels of AU, I was exposed to the harsh realities of life like peas curry and rice for lunch at the hostel :-) which, with other eye-opening experiences, transformed me from a kid into a man I am now. I graduated with my other friends in the class of '93.

Grad

Call me crazy or nerdish! I will be having three(!) Masters Degrees soon. I finished my MBA after I was done with my Masters in the Department of Computer Science at Wayne State University, Detroit in Dec '95. Currently working on a Masters in Project Management from George Washington U. During my grad days at WSU, I used to work as a Research Assistant in the Bureau of Business Research, School of Business Administration and made the US-DOE a lil' poorer ;-)

Career

I started my career as a Network / Database Administrator in EDS for the General Motors' Truck & Bus group. I was a consultant through Ajilon. My next job was over as a Database developer at the Quality Office of the Automotive Components Division (now Visteon) at Ford Motor Company. Quality is Job one for me now as the old Ford Ad's said :-).

I used to be a web developer churning out intranet database applications on the Ford Intranet. I am consulting through Kelly Services Inc a Fortune 500 company with over 800,000 employees. I have been living in the wonderful neighborhood of Westland - the place to be for a few years now. Used to live at the Woodcrest Villa and Athletic Clubs before, my current abode is the Westwood Village.

Presently

I'm a Project Manager for Ford Motor Company - been at Ford for 10+yrs now and live in Canton, MI 'the new place to be!'.

Interests

Hmmm. With such a broad range of interests, which one should I describe? The best thing which happened to me ever since I saw Cindy Crawford was the internet. How can I ever forget those nights spent at the Wayne State Engg. labs in front of the Sparc 20, surfing the net, updating my pages thus, constantly increasing my diopters!. Talking abt tubes, my favorite sitcom was Seinfeld [Like other fans. I do boast of seeing all of the 150+ episodes ;-)], still having withdrawal symptoms during the post Seinfeld era. My favorite actor is Padmasri Kamal Haasan and the current list of favorite Indian actresses (other than the obvious La Dixit) are Aish Rai & Urmi Matondkar. How can I forget to mention my favorite musician Maestro Ilayaraaja, who unlike Bob Kaab(of Seinfeld fame) is a real Maestro. And being from Hockeytown, how can I not love Michigan Sports like Lions Football and Red Wings Hockey. Did somebody say Barry Sanders kicks some serious butt? Oh yeah, ask Tim Allen...
