Hi, my name is Nigel Alsop welcome to my homepage. Let me tell you a bit about myself and the van I race here in New Zealand. I am a member of Christchurch's drag racing club, Pegasus Bay Drag Racing Club Inc. The photo above is a picture of my 1983 CF2 Bedford Van that I race in P.B.D.R.C.'s Modified Street class, a heads-up class for vehicles which cover the quarter-mile in 12.90 to 13.89 seconds. Why race a van you may ask...well, I'm actually confined to an electric wheelchair so I need a vehicle big enough for me to fit in. I am probably pretty selfish when it comes to racing, my thoughts on it are; "If I'm going to spend $40,000 - $50,00 on drag racing a vehicle, I will sacrifice a bit of speed and race something that is big enough for me to ride in". I can't drive the van at all, my friend or my brother drive it for me. The passengers seat has been removed so at the race track I quite often pull up there, put on my helmet and go for a ride for a few races. It doesn't really look like a race car/van from the outside, but under the bonnet it is definitely serious stuff. The engine is a fully worked, supercharged 355 cubic inch Chevy, that produces over 400 horsepower. Below is a table full of everything and anything you might want to know about the van.
