As you can see, I am a dedicated Mark Martin fan.

Mark is the driver of the #6 Valvoline Ford Taurus in the Winston Cup Series & the #60 Winn Dixie Ford Taurus in the Busch Series.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mark when I won a contest sponsored by Reese's in September 1994. I became an Honorary Race Team Member for time trials of the race that was held at Dover Downs International Speedway. That was to say the least, one of the biggest days of my life. To this day I treasure my Valvoline Pit Crew Uniform!

Dover Downs is located in Dover, DE. The track was nicknamed The Monster Mile (it tends to eat up alot of the cars during a race), but is now also known as 'White Lightning' (it was paved in concrete, making it one of only 2 tracks that have a concrete racing surface).

Dover Downs is a one mile oval with banking of 24 degrees in the corners and 18 degrees on the straitaways. The qualifying record of 155.898 mph/23.092 seconds, belongs to Rusty Wallace and was set May 29, 1998. The Race record is 132.719 mph and was set September 21, 1997 by MARK MARTIN!!

In 1998 Dover Downs added a race featuring the IRL (Indy Racing League). The race was held on July 7, 1998. It was won by Scott Sharp, with an average race speed of 99.318 mph, with the race length being 2:29:49. Fastest Qualifier was Tony Stewart with a speed of 185.204 (currently a track record).

In 1997 Mark became the winningest driver in NASCAR Busch history with 32 wins. Mark currently has 44 wins, and has won 27 Busch Series Poles.

Won the race that gave Jack Roush his 200th victory as a car owner.

Won 1998 Bud shootout at Daytona.
The Bud shootout is a non-points race. Only the drivers who have won a pole the previous year are allowed to race...with one exception. There is a race for all the fastest second day qualifiers, with the winner of that race gaining the last starting position into the Bud shootout.
