Hot Chevy Homepage
Back in around 1990 my father bought
me a 1955 Chevy 210 Delray Coupe. This
was the start of a project that I believe
will never finish as long as I live. Here
is a picture of what the car looks like
today. When I bought the car it had a
perfect body with no rust and even ran.
We bought it for $4500 dollars in Smith-
ville Tennessee off my cousin. I was 13
years old and started work on it the day we pulled it into the driveway. At that point I had never worked
on a car or anything that was mechanical except tearing up old toys and remote control cars and trucks.
By the end of the day I had completely removed
the whole front clip, and by the end of the week
I even had pulled the engine. After months of
sandblasting the car finally went to the paint
shop and came out beautiful. Now came the time
to pick out some tires and rims. After this I
had to put all the chrome on it and all the little
details to make it look nice on the outside. At
first I had some American Racing rims but decided to go with Billet Specialties rims and Bf Goodrich 225/75/R-15 tires.
Also, I put in newer style power brakes to replace the original power brakes that came with the car. I also put Disc Brakes
on the front spindles. For sound I used a custom fit KenWood tape deck with an optional 10 Disc CD Changer that is
controlled by the deck. For speakers I have5 inch Kenwood's in the doors along with 1' tweeters on the top half of the door.
For base I have 2 JL Audio 12w6's in a box in the trunk. I actually plan on replacing the box with a custom-fit cut out.
To
get to the point the car is at right now it
has taken well over 9 years, 2 engines,
3 transmissions, 2 rear ends, 3 exhaust
systems and around $25,000 dollars.
I have made dozens of upgrades and plan on
making many more. The cars colors are the
factory Delray Coupe's Gypsy Red with India
Ivory roof. The interior is the Delray Checked
Black and White Vinyl and the car also has
EZ-EYE factory tinted glass. But due to a semi-truck I am going to have to replace the front windshield sometime in the near
future. Right now my project upgrade is to convert the car over to fuel injection. This will cost around 1K, I bought the
injection out of a junkyard for a 150 dollars, but will have to buy new a new throttle body, injectors, wiring harness, fuel
pump, and half a dozen sensors. I'm expecting that when combined with a new chip, cam, and roller rockers I will putting
out over 400 horsepower.
At first I started out with a 307 from a Nova
but it just didn't
have the kick so now I have a 350 bored .30 over with
Sportsman II heads, A Corvette 700R-4 Trans, and a 3:73
Positraction rear end. Also, I have 2.5 inch dual exhaust
piped through dual chamber Flow-Masters.
I've been offered money plenty of times to sell this car, but
being that it was my first car, the first project my father and I
worked on together, the car my wife and I had our 1st date
in and the same car we had our first kiss in, I can easily say
that I would never sell it.
Other things that I have upgraded have been:
Remote Alarm/Doorlock System
H.E.I. Electronic Ignition
12 " Subwoofer System
Dakota Digital Dash
10 Disk CD-Changer
Electric Cooling fan
Electric Fuel Pump
Power Door Locks
Hooker Headers
Power Brakes
Disc Brakes
Digital Clock
Upgrades that are in process:
Currently no upgrades are in the process, just maintenance, unless you count switching to side engine mounts
because the front engine mounts are broken.
Parts that went go into the TPI conversion were...

High Performance Chip
Roller Rockers

Future Upgrades:
2 inch front lowering kit
