After 10 years as an LPN, I finally achieved
my RN. It took many years of part time school, full time
working and full time single parenting to reach my goals.
All of which I wouldn't trade for anything.
Without the support of my family and friends
reaching my goal would have been more
stress than most can handle.
Today I continue my nursing career
in GI endoscopy and a gastroenterology physician
office. I remain in constant contact with my patients
by providing direct patient care and am able
to follow my patients through out their GI experiences.
SGNA (Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and
Associates) has provided another avenue for
advancement of my career. For the past 2 years,
I have been an active member by being the
editor of the Ambulatory Practice Special Interest
Group newsletter. In the next fiscal year, I will be the
co-chair of this group. And if these responsiblities
are not enough, I am also on the SGNA newsletter
committee, providing some insight into upcoming issues.
SGNA and my employer have provided many
career growth opportunities also. They have provided
a chance for me to speak locally and nationally
to fellow nurses and associates on subjects such as:
TQM in the physician office and staff education.
