- ***1/2 Casino the best mafia flick this side of Goodfellas. Speaking of Goodfellas, you'll notice many memory bringing names: Scorcese, De Niro, Pesci... and now Sharon Stone. SUPERB direction as usual. This movie shows a lot about Casinos, how people are killed out in the desert, and other interesting facts. As for the plot, it's based on the true story of how the mafia fucked up the perfect opportunity, to be a part of the money machine that Vegas is. Ace (De Niro) is sent to run a casino, but soon his boyhood friend, extremely violent criminal Nicky Santoro (Pesci), comes along for the ride. And to top things off, Ace falls in love with a money-obsessed woman (Stone). Things quickly fall apart... The movie ends in a violent explosion as their operation in Vegas is terminated by the bosses back home (in the east). This is a good movie about justice, especially because it's mostly true. Completely engrossing throughout.
