OPD Mission

When you enter Disneyland, the first thing that you might
think to yourself is, "There is something different about this
theme park." That is known as the "magic" of Disneyland.
That is the way Walt Disney always wanted it to be. Sadly,
under current Disneyland management, dumb decisions,
along with big budget restraints, have helped in the degrading
of the "magic". Operation: Preserve Disneyland is dedicated
to preserve the "magic" at the Disneyland Resort®

Operation: Preserve Disneyland was started in 1997, after
strong rumors of the possible removal of the Country Bear
Jamboree attraction, to be replaced with a character meet
and greet area. The thought of a classic, Walt Disney
attraction, to be replaced with a meet and greet area, was
very painful, and a plan that most people couldn't understand.
The OPD creator was convinced that he had to try to do
something. Through that, Operation: Preserve Disneyland
was initially started. And has been alive since June 1997.

It soon grew to hosting many preserve Disneyland projects at
one time. The majority of projects you will find here on OPD
(Operation: Preserve Disneyland) revolve around protecting
the embodiment of Walt's dreams which became known as
Disneyland. Nearly 40 years ago Walt set a standard that all
theme parks would be messured against, but today Disney
themselves show little interest in preserving those ideas
which made Disneyland so great, in favor of more budget
friendly approaches.
No Disneyland shouldn't become as stagnant as a museum.
But when the time does come to replace an attraction, great
care and consideration should be taken to preserve the former
attractions dignity, while providing a whole new experience,
especially those attractions that were worked on personally
by Walt. It would indeed be a sad day when the Tiki Room
welcomed it's last guests. But it's a slap in the face to all
Disney fans when it's only replacement will be a giant food.
As sad as these stories are, there are even more of them.
Year after year more attraction closures, maitenence
cutbacks, price hikes, ride breakdowns and budget cuts far
outwiegh those of new *quality* attractions and overall, good
park news. Time and time again the only reasons behind
such problems are the managers trying to save every last
penny, and squeeze every last dollar out of the paying
guests.
The root of the problems are in upper management, mainly
president of Disneyland Reort, Paul Pressler. Paul Pressler
came to Disneyland with no experience on running a theme
park, and it shows. He was named president in 1994, when
the Indiana Jones Adventure was well underway. It was
rumored that he wanted to shut down the making of the
attraction, because it would cost way too much money. The
way things are going, the last Disney quality attraction to
ever enter Disneyland was the Indiana Jones Adventure.
Many mistakes were made during the 40 years of
Disneyland, before Pressler. Those mistakes were realised,
and corrected, creating an almost perfect theme park. But
with someone who knows next to nothing about Disneyland's
past, or theme parks in general, we as Disneyland's guests
can expect errors, bad choices, new bad quality attractions,
and disasters. Paul Pressler seems unwilling to take a look
at Disneyland's past, realise what was bad, and not to repeat
history.
Take for example the recent disasters like Happy Hearts,
Light Magic, attraction hour cuts, maintenance cutbacks,
new cast member rules and regulations, and reorganization of
the departments, if one were to actually know what makes
Disneyland, Disneyland, those disasters could have been
completely avoided. These disasters will remain in people's
minds and will give them something to think about when they
want to decide what theme park to go to. Walt Disney once
said something to this effect, "If you have guests, keep 'em
happy, because when they stop coming, it is really hard to
get them to come back." The managers at Disneyland don't
realise what they are doing now, are going to completely
cripple them in the long run. All they seem to care about are
current attendance statistics, and profit margins.
This site was created to make aware the goings on at
Disneyland and hopefully put an end to them. So browse
through the current projects and take some time to vist the OPD Forum. You will be able to find some great info there. Also vist some of the other pages such as... Disneyland Talks, OPD Windows, and many other web pages.
Then take action. Don't be afraid to let Disney
know how you feel about things.
