The Life and Death of Robert Washing

Robert E. Washing Obituary                                                                                

  Dr. Robert E. Washing, of Courville Avenue, Toledo,
OH, passed away Monday, September 20, 1999, at
Lake Park at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, OH, after a breif but
courageous, battle with cancer.  Born in Toledo, Ohio, on
October 14, 1943, he remainded in Toledo for most of his
adult life.  Dr. Washing began his career in dentistry in
North Bay, Ontario, Canada, for 6 years.  He then practiced
dentistry at Fallen Tembers Medical center, Maumee Ohio,
for the past 22 years, retiring in August, 1999, due to
an unfortunate sudden illness.  He was a graduate of Thomas
A. DeVilbiss High Schoolm a 1966 graduate of The University
of Toledo, and a 1971 graduate of The Ohio State University
School of Dentistry.  He was a member of The Ohio Dental
Association, The American Dental Association, The Jungian
Society , The Great Books' Club, Men's Group.  Additionally,
he was an active member of the Fisrt Unitarian Universalist
Church of Toledo.
     Dr. Washing's family, friends, patients, and the church
were his utmost passions in life.  He was a spiritual,
multi-talented and caring individual, who had many
"professions" in addition to dentistry.  His most prized
gift was his sincere devotion to listening and offering
unconditional support to those needing a helping hand.  His
talents included being a guitar player and folk singer,
ability to play various other instruments, guest speaker at
local churches, and a prolific amateur writer and poet. 
Bob placed his last entry in his personal journal on
Sunday morning which foretold his eminent passing
"...______________."
     Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ginny;
sons, Douglas J. Washing, Joel R. Washing, and Chad M.
Washing, all of Sylvania; mother Mary Jayne Washing;
Brother C. Craig Washing (Marti) Washing, of Montgomery,
AL; mother-in-law, Evelyn Davis; aunt, Florence Washing;
and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  He is
proceeded in death by his father, Charles E. Washing; and
sister, Betsy Kay (Washing) Lane.
     The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation
and warm thanks to his entire medical team, various local
hospital facilities, and Lake Park of Flower Hospital "his
new home" for their excellent care.  Also, a thank you to
family, friends, and patients, for their loving,
unconditional support throughout his shortened life...
     "...Let the strength of our longing for you help us to
grow in the wise use of our powers, that through us you
power may be magnified in human life.  so we may hollow this
world and labor to redeem it."
