I decided to attend the South African Splashy Fen music festical for the first time in 1998, and armed with a camcorder and portable audio recording equipment, I set about gathering sound-bites from the multitude of people, young and old, who attend this event annually.
In addition to meeting Chuck (above), one of the funniest people I have ever encountered, I met many Splashy Fen regulars who had insightful and poignant observations to make, not least about the new South Africa, which many were very outspoken about.
Many were outspoken because of the festivals' unually high crime rate, many claiming to have had things stolen, in particular:
She had her tent broken into, and many of her clothes stolen. When asked about the security at the festival, many replied: "What security?"
This documentary was filmed on 8mm, though it looks Digital, and I hope to cut the 90 minutes of footage into a respectable 10 minute documentary, which I hope to sell to Channel 4 in the UK.
