Charles
Shaughnessy was born on February 9, 1955 to a British
showbiz family. His father was the writer of
"Upstairs, Downstairs" and his mother was a
stage actress. He started acting when he was still in his
grade school years. His first performance was in a grade
school production, "Peter Rabbit". When he
graduated form Eton College, he decided to study law at
Cambridge. "It was about time someone in my family
did something sensible," he said. While studying
law, he joined a group called "Footlights
Revue". After graduation, he entered drama school,
and he was cast in Agatha Christie's "Partners in
Crime", and won the lead role in "Jury". After all those success, he went to
Hollywood in 1983 to wed Susan Fallender, a woman he met
in drama school. In America, he was first seen in Mark
Taper Forum for his performance in "The
Genius". He was given the role of Shane Donovan in
Days of Our Lives in 1984, and he won three Soap Opera
Digest Awards for that. After leaving days in 1992, he
was given the role of Maxwell Sheffield in the CBS sitcom
"The Nanny"in 1993. He also appeared in several
TV shows such as "Murphy Brown" and "Mad
About You", and he also appeared in the CBS mini
series "Till We Meet Again".
At present, he and his wife
Susan live in Santa Monica, California, with their two
daughters Jenny and Madelyn.
