WHAT ELSE DO I RECOMMEND?
Well, follow me and I will tell you...
Two mutilated bodies are found out on a desolate road. The authorities look for signs of a drug deal gone bad, but there are no signs. Then more horrible murders start to take place, along with mass livestock killings. The real killer is something nobody could imagine. This is "Crota", the amazing Horror debut from Owl Goingback. Owl is another rare author who scares the hell out of you, but doesn't feel the need to gross you out, but he will when
he needs to. The suspense is tight and as close to perfectly written as you will ever find. If you want a classic monster on the loose tale, but with a great twist, "Crota" is for you. If you want a well written novel, Owl Goingback is also for you. I will mention "Darker Than Night" right after I read it.
JACK KETCHUM
This book really doesn't fit the normal Horror novel. The topic is of child abuse. It discusses that topic in a way that pulls no punches. This was one of the hardest books I have ever read, but it is also quite possibly the most compelling book I have ever read. I am not going to give too much away, the whole thing needs to be absorbed. The basic premise is a girl and her sister move into their Aunt's house when their parent's die. Once there, the nightmare begins. This is a book that will really make you think. Unfortunately this book is out of print. But I recommend you track down a used copy somewhere. Everybody needs to read this book.
M.R. JAMES
Pull up a campfire, let the moon rise full, kick back and relaz. This is all of the ghost stories written by the master of the ghost story, M.R. James. This is the easiest way to get all of the stories and the cheapest. If you don't wish to shell out the big money (up to $100.00)
then this is the book.The stories are all short, but they are rich with description and imagination. In these stories you will see where the modern master got the ideas. This is a wonderful book and no Horror fan should be without it.
H.P. LOVECRAFT
This is one of the books that made me love reading. I think that really says something that after all of these years, Lovecraft can still inspire new fans like myself. This might not be considered his best in the eyes of the die-hards, due to it being a "new" gathering of stories, but nobody can argue the greatness of the stories within. All of the Old Ones are here. I recommend getting this first, but then get all of the books that go with this one. No Lovecraft reading experience is complete without stories such as "Mountains of Madness" or "The Hound" (one that Lovecraft disliked, but I feel has a wonderful feel to it). So if you are not familiar yet, go get yourself some H.P. Lovecraft!
