My Album Review Album being reviewed: Offspring "Americana" Honestly.. I would have to say that I was not too impressed with some of the songs on this album.. keep in mind I say SOME songs.. for the most part I would have to say.. that as a second album.. it really doesn't measure up to their first album "Smash" which I found to be really thought provoking and definately a great CD to listen to. However, it seems to me that the Offspring, in this album was going for a more mainstream audience, and I would say in doing so seemed to jeopardize some of the more thought provoking lyrics for those that were more humorous. I would however like to add that the song "Why Don't You Get a Job" on the album is a pretty lame take off of the Beatles song "Obladee Obladaa" For those of you that haven't heard of this song.. go listen to it and then relisten to the Offspring song. It's pretty sad mainstream writing. The one exception to this of course would be the song "The Kids Aren't Alright" which definately is not only catchy but realistically insightful. I would have to say though.. if there was a song that would have to make or break the album.. it would be "Pretty Fly for a White Guy". It's hilarious lyrics and catchy tune makes it a definate selling point for the album. Overall I would rate this album as a 4. (out of a basis of 10 being best) |
