This poem was written for my soulsister when our worlds seemed to fall
apart...:(
Do Not Sleep (Sister)
I do not mean to wake you
but you must not sleep
don’t surrender to those dreams
you think are yours to keep
I do not mean to disturb you
but you must not rest
can’t you feel the pounds of fear
that beats inside my chest
I do not mean to shake you
but take the golden slumbers away
you think the sun is shining
yet our sky is thick and gray
I do not mean to frighten you
just take my hand and follow me
the world is out to get us
to hurt us, can’t you see
I do not mean to scare you
but I can’t forget the sight
of their twisted faces smiling
before we went to sleep tonight
I do not mean to worry you
with this darkness all around
keep holding onto my hand
and place your feet steady on the ground
I do not mean to hold you down
but we must surely hide
don’t worry about their footsteps searching
just push your fears aside
I did not want to wake you
but I felt you were not safe at all
that pain would sneak upon you
and build between us a hurting wall
I did not want to scare you
and I know my comfort is too late
but let us stand together now
and face the world and meet our fate
(ends here, last verse for Erin)
Because I care for you, sister
and I feel this isn’t fair
that all seem out to hurt us now
alone it’s too much to bear
