- she is married to director Davis Guggenheim since 1994
- her father is James Shue, and her mother Anne Shue
- has two kids with Guggenheim: a son, Miles William (* 11. November 1997) and a daughter, Stella (* 19. March 2001)
- has two brothers, Andrew (* 20. February 1967), best known as Billy Campbell in the TV series "Melrose Place", and John (*1969)
- had also one older brother, William (* 1962) who died in a grotesque swimming accident during a family vacation in 1988
