Welcome to Fatdad's |
This site is dedicated to our children. Here you will find information on Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Tourettes and much more. It is my belief that knowledge is the key to success in parenting a special needs child, but it is important to remember when seeking knowledge that there are no miracle cures out there, so one must remain objective and above all else, one must ultimately do what he or she thinks is best for the child. |
I watched him sit alone in the batter's cage, Bat and ball at his side, glove in his lap, Waiting for someone to come along And offer to play ball with him. But no one came! Time passed and still he sat there, Waiting patiently For the friend that would never come. I walked over and entered the batter's cage, Picked up the ball and offered to pitch. He looked up at me, His eyes grew so very bright, And he beamed with pleasure. He watched as the ball came towards him, Trying to decide what to do, Unsure of himself, Of his ability to catch it. At the last possible second, He held out his glove in front of him And the ball landed safely inside. "I caught it Daddy," he yelled triumphantly. "Woooo hoooo Justen, good job! I yelled. For the next 30 minutes or so, The rest of the world faded away. All that existed was me, My son, And a softball. Each time he caught the ball, I screamed for him, When he missed, I reminded him there was always next time. We laughed together that night, My son and I, And inside I cried for him as well, For the pain he must have felt, Sitting there waiting for someone to play with. I cried for him, And for all the other children Who have ever sat alone. By Odis E. Shultz Fatdad36_20 April 27, 2002 |
