I went to War Grade, War Junior High and Big Creek High School. I remember the theaters owned by Mannie and ouis Shore and worked there at one time taking up tickets. I also remember Goffredo's, Romeos and Kroger Store. Stutso's Pool Hall, Rexall Drug Store where in later years my cousin Sally Bucko worked. I remember the Murphy 5 & l0 as well as the Ben Franklin Store. George's Swwt Shop owned by the Jabers, where I spent a lot of time. I lived on Beach Hill and often baby sat or Homer Swan the principal of Big Creek High, as well as baby sitting for George Bryson the supertendent of McDowell County Schools. Some of your comments and pictures bring back bittersweet memories for me. I read in the Bluefield News that my 3rd cousi , Joan Deskins Blevins just died recently, I am sorry that I never took the time to stay in touch with her. Thanks for the memories. |

Another source told me that George's parents were Daniel and Ester "Hatfield" Day. Was Daniel marri d twice? I have a list of Daniel and Ester's children. I thought maybe I had the wrong Daniel but both show his children as George and Edmony Janey. That is too coincidental. Please let me know what you think. |
