Science, Exploration and Defence: 100 Years of Canada in the Arctic

500 words on the role of Canada in the Arctic - with emphasis on the active role we havee played in opening the region to science, exploration and to defending and policing it.

Ex. The snowmobile, invented by Canada's Armand Bombardier in 1922 has played a pivotal role in Canada's expansion north. Able to carry a rider across great distances quickly and economically, it has become the mode of transportation of choice both for scientists, explorers and the Canadian Inuit. During Operation Muskox, over 45 snowmobiles were used to carry 300 men over 3,000 km in one of the largest Arctic military expeditions in Canadian history.
